Talk Therapy
Licensed Masters Level Clinicians will assess, diagnose, and treat individuals and the goals that have been developed in a traditional talk therapy setting. We recognize that ALL of us have experiences some type of trauma in our lives. We explore the impact of this trauma on each person’s self-narrative and their relationships with others. Using models and theories such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Adlerian and Child Centered Play Therapy, Gestalt Theory, Jungian Analytical Theory, Psychosomatic Theory, Polyvagal Theory, Developmental Attachment/Object Relations Theory, Structural Family, Systems Theory and Satir Transformational Systemic Theory as well as Holistic medicine. Holistic medicine is interested in treating the whole system. Holistic is characterized by the treatment of the whole person, taking into account mental and social factors, rather than just the symptoms of a disease.
Family Therapy
Licensed Masters Level Clinicians specifically trained in Marriage and Family Therapy will work with (client identified) family member or significant partner to assist the client and family on communicating, supporting, alleviating and processing feelings, needs, roles and goals that have been developed in the therapy setting. We know that generational trauma can be carried from up to 7 generations and greatly impact the way we parent, relate to others and view ourselves.
Group Therapy
Licensed Masters Level Clinicians facilitate psychoeducational, dynamic, self-awareness building and support in both support group and curriculum-based group therapy. All groups offered are modified to best meet the needs of the individuals participating. Groups are therapy based and best results are achieved if the individual is committed to attending and participating in all scheduled group sessions. Groups offered vary based on need and interest.
Play Therapy
Play Therapy is the use of therapeutic interventions used by specially trained therapists that build on the normal communication and learning processes of children. In Play Therapy, toys are the child’s words and play is the child’s language. Play therapy allows children to change the way they think about, feel toward, and resolve their concerns. Many severe problems can be addressed in play therapy and lasting resolutions can be discovered, rehearsed, mastered and adapted into lifelong strategies. We conceptualize cases from a neurosequential developmental approach. In 2019, CFRW founder was awarded Play Therapist of the Year by the Iowa Association for Play Therapy. She also uses her training experience working with children to serve as a therapist, advocate and witness in the legal system.
Thera Play
TheraPlay based techniques focus on enhancing a child’s attachment, sense of security and self-esteem.
There are four components that TheraPlay techniques encompass: Structure, Engagement, Nurture and Challenge. These techniques not only work on the caregiver-child bond, but also help facilitate structure and boundaries in the caregiver-child relationship.
Trauma & Attachment Specialty
Trauma Informed Care trained providers utilize concepts and strategies from Attachment Theory, Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics and Collaborative Problem Solving to treat symptoms, behaviors, needs and dynamics that result from traumatic experiences and/or developmental trauma (disrupted or disorganized attachment in the formative developmental years of a child’s life) due to placement in foster care, abuse or neglect, medical trauma, caregiver trauma or substance abuse, etc.
